Every two years the Art Dept, Art Club, Industrial Technology and School to Work courses here at South Ridge will combine efforts to raise money for our local Food Shelf by creating bowls (wood and clay) to be sold ($10/bowl) with soup (donated through local organizations). It is called the “South Ridge Empty Bowl Project”.
Each year in the Art Department we will be creating bowls using slump bowls, wheel-thrown bowls and hand built bowls using the coil method. Each course have different criteria required so check you courses assignment listing for details. Criteria for grading as well as inclusion in the SR Empty Bowl project include:
Overall size of the bowl – roughly 7″ – 9″ diameter x 5″ x 7″ high
Aesthetic of finished bowl – surface and glaze
Care and consideration in the studio – start up, clean up, attending to clay bowls, clear identification
Classes working with clay will have a period of time in the classroom – as an assignment – to work on their bowls. See Ms. Olson for more information.
