Ichthyology, Batik and Indigo Dye

Using your iPad go to

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fish/index.html and look through the variety of fish found in Minnesota. Choose at least four to draw as realistically as possible. Drawings need to be at least 8″ long. Redraw on tracing paper with a black marker using only thick and thin line.

Based on the line drawings use batik wax and reproduce drawings on large muslin sheets. **Safety demonstration on the use of batik wax and the studio will happen during class** Fish variations should fill muslin sheet – as if the fish are in deep water.

Once the sheet in filled with 20+fish it will be dyed in a vat of indigo dye. Sheets will be used to cover windows in the HS art studio.
