Chuck Close is known for creating extremely large portraits based on very small photographs. Using the grid method he enlarges the images proportionally.
Based on the 8″ x 10″ portrait provided grid off the images (not including the white border in 1″ squares. On 20″ x 32″ paper provided grid that off in 2″ squares.
After watching the demonstration complete the larger version of yourself by inking your finger tip and pressing it on to the paper. Different amounts of pressure and ink will create your different values.
Successful images are best created when you consider each square alone from the entire image. While working step back to see the result from time to time.
