Students looked at a number of birch bark baskets made with two shades of bark showing.
The project students will work on is a birchbark ID tag. Students will cut out of birch bark two pieces. An larger opening will be cut out of the front pieces and holes for sewing the two pieces together marked around the perimeter. Demonstration of the sewing and cutting, drilling and overall construction are given in class.
After a brief discussion of the 7 Ojibwe clans was discussed and students were instructed to consider which animal/attributes they felt the most connected to for their artwork.
