COMPETITION OVERVIEW
The first 2,000 U.S.-based public or private high schools (Sorry no home schools or community programs may enter), to register for Vans Custom Culture according to our official rules will receive four pairs of Vans shoes (106, Sk8-Hi, Slip On and Authentic) to customize! With registration now closed, we have reviewed all registrations and have confirmed that South Ridge School is entered in our competition! Shoes will ship this week and next (Feb 15-26).
FYI – Some extras connected to our participation include: Laguna College of Art and Design is offering a scholarship opportunity for one senior per school in our Top 5! Also, Blick Art Supplies has generously donated to each of our 3,000 schools two sets of Winsor & Newton ProMarkers that you are free to use. The ProMarkers are not a requirement in your design; they are a gift so each school has basic materials for their design to support their #RightToArt.
Our partners at truth will be sending you a care package soon to thank you for participating, as well as inform you about an additional opportunity to earn $10,000 for your art program. Last year’s truth winner took home the grand prize as well, giving them over $60,000 towards their art program.
Please remember to review the full rules at vans.com/customculture before you begin your design process.
Feel free to post photos of your process on your social media accounts and use #RightToArt and #VansCustomCulture to continue the conversation about the importance of art education in schools.
Each pair of shoes must be customized to represent one of four themes: Action Sports (Defined as boards and bikes, not stick and ball!) Music, Art, and Local Flavor (Inspired by your surrounding community, city or state). ONE THEME PER PAIR! Review the web site (google Van’s Custom Culture”) and see what students have done in the past. http://sites.vans.com/customculture Using the templates provided complete “ideas” you might want to see on your shoe – in your theme. Submit them to Ms. O with narrative explaining your ideas by March 4th (sketchbooks/templates/email). Critique will be returned ASAP and work on the shoes should begin immediately.
Shoes need to be completed by March 31st.
