Still Life Drawing & Painting

This is one of four paintings of sunflowers dating from August and September 1888. Van Gogh intended to decorate Gauguin's room with these paintings in the so-called Yellow House that he rented in Arles in the South of France. He and Gauguin worked there together between October and December 1888.

Still life drawing and painting is one of three of the most common compositions artists use to create work. Traditional compositions are either portraits, landscapes or still ife compositions.

For the first assignment, art students will draw and paint their own still life compositions. Gardeners from the South Ridge community have brought in fruit, flowers and vegetables grown in their gardens this past summer for art students to use to create still life paintings. All art work will be prepared for possible submission into the Fall art fundraiser “Art to Remember”.

Artwork will be printed in full color on to cards available for purchase (available before Winter holiday). Fundraiser forms will be handed out in class and orders taken before select “home” volleyball games. All money raised will go to offset student cost towards the art field trips to the Twin Cities.
